Abortion Options / Non-Surgical Procedures
(Mifepristone (RU-486) abortion)

The non-surgical or medical abortion procedure offers patients an alternative to surgical abortion. Non-surgical abortions are safer than surgical abortions. Many women also find them gentler and more "natural".

The non-surgical procedure can be given between the fourth and ninth week of pregnancy, starting from the first day of your last normal menstrual period. The procedure consists of two medications to chemically induce a miscarriage.

There are two methods of non-surgical abortion available currently. The difference between them is the medication used to end the pregnancy. The two forms of non-surgical terminations are:
  • Methotrexate and Misoprostol regimen
  • Mifepristone and Misoprostol regimen (the Abortion Pill)
